Bitfinex CTO confirms no data breach, cites fake allegations

Bitfinex CTO Confirms Data Breach Allegations Unfounded

Bitfinex Chief Technology Officer Paolo Ardoino has reassured users that recent data breach allegations against the cryptocurrency exchange were baseless. Following an extensive internal review, Ardoino confirmed the security of Bitfinex’s user database.

Allegations of Breach Surface but Misrepresented

Rumors of a data breach at Bitfinex arose after a post by Alice of Shinoji Research, citing a hacking group, FSociety, as the culprits behind the supposed breach on April 26. However, Ardoino’s investigation revealed that the data involved was not extracted from Bitfinex’s servers but compiled from previous breaches, misrepresenting the situation.

Clarification and Importance of Unique Passwords

Alice of Shinoji Research has retracted the initial claims, explaining that the information was misrepresented and involved old data from various breaches. Ardoino emphasizes the risks of password reuse across platforms and urges users to use unique passwords for improved security, especially on financial platforms.
